La Bella Addormentata

Sleeping Beauty
Turned to stone
Spread across the land
Rocky and alone

Lioness dormant
What did you do?
To anger the gods
So they turned against you

Mountain princess
Covered in snow
Breathing in silence?
How will we know...

Sleeping Beauty
Turned to stone
Till true loves first kiss
Rocky and alone

(This is a poem about a mountain range. The beautiful peaks of the Appenines, as they run through the Abruzzo region in Italy, resemble the contours of a reclining woman. Hence the name the locals give these mountains: 'La Bella Addormentata' or 'Sleeping Beauty'...)
